The Movement

Our Story

A pioneering community organisation in the Bo-Kaap — combining religious education with socio-economic upliftment since 1970.

The Boorhaanol Islam Movement (BIM) is a pioneering community organisation in the Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, established to combine religious educational initiatives with socio-economic upliftment programmes. Founded in 1970, BIM has been at the forefront of community development for over five decades.

From its founding days under Imam Achmad Sedick to the family of organisations it coordinates today, the movement's work has remained anchored in a single conviction: that spiritual life and community upliftment grow best together.
